Other exemptions may also be issued from time to time depending on the nature of the request.  For instance, exemptions have been previously issued in respect to people who:

  • are required to occasionally handle firearms in the course of specific employment
  • wish to use starting pistols and similar devices in sporting events
  • wish to use imitation firearms for various theatrical productions
  • wish to display permanently deactivated prohibited firearms in museums, RSL clubs and similar premises.

A general exemption has also been previously issued in respect to heirlooms licence holders who only possess permanently deactivated heirloom firearms (exemption from completing the firearms safety training course), and to owners of pre-1900 firearms that are incapable of being fired using commercially available ammunition.
