Sections 148 and 158A of the Firearms Act 1996 requires specific health professionals to report to police the following types of incidents:
- If their patient/client is likely to possess or use a firearm in circumstances which would be unsafe, (Section 148) and:
- Information about gunshot injuries (Section 158A).
Under Section 148 a “prescribed person” who is required to report includes:
- a medical practitioner
- a registered nurse
- a person registered under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (Tasmania) Act 2010 in the psychology profession
- a social worker, and
- a professional counsellor
